Amtrak Guest Rewards MasterCard
This credit card offers a number of incentives for those who often use Amtrak’s travel services. Amtrak do themselves provide a reward program (not a credit card), but with this Rewards MasterCard you can improve the return you get for your purchases and earn discounts and freebies more quickly.
The advertised card is a World MasterCard, though in making this card open to as many people as possible there is also a Platinum version which may be offered to you if you apply for the World version and are unsuccessful.
For all Amtrak purchases you make with this card, 2 points are provided for every dollar. 1 point per dollar is provided for all other purchases. You can start to redeem these points once you reach 1,500 of them, and the Amtrak website explains how they can be used. As an added extra you get a 5% every time you redeem your points for Amtrak services.
This card also has a bonus for the bigger spenders; spend over $500 in the first three months of account opening and you have the chance to gain thousands of bonus points.
Interest Rates and Fees
The World MasterCard credit card comes with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 15.24% (purchase and balance transfers) and a rate of 19.24% for advances. Platinum card rates will likely extend beyond 20%.
This card comes with standard penalty fees – late payment and returned payments are $35 – and there is also a penalty APR of 29.99% which may apply under such circumstances. There is a 3% free for transactions such as balance transfers and international money transfers.
The due date is at least 21 days after the end of the previous billing cycle. If you do not want to incur any interest, pay off your balance by the due date.
