McGill Credit Card
MBNA is a leading provider of affinity card programs in Canada, and is endorsed by almost 500 educational institutions in Canada. The bank has now partnered with McGill University to offer members and friends of the university the McGill University MasterCard. With this card you can proudly show your support for this institution wherever you go.
Bonuses and Perks
The McGill Credit Card does not come with a rewards program. It benefits you instead by providing 1.99% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for 10 months, and by giving you low general rates of interest. The balance transfer fee is 1% so this card gives you a good incentive to transfer an existing balance.
This card includes the new contact-less payment feature PayPass, which allows you to make smaller purchases at participating merchants without having to swipe your card or entering your details. Thanks to MasterCard you get plenty of security features and assurances, including MasterCard Zero Liability and Online SiteKey.
Interest Rates and Fees
After the introductory periods, the standard rate of interest is 16.99% on retail purchases, and 18.99% on balance transfers, access cheques and deposits, and cash advances. There is a penalty APR, which is an increase of 5% on top of the normal interest rate, though you do get some leniency here because for the penalty APR to apply you must make a late payment more than once within 12 consecutive billing cycles. There is no annual fee, and the grace period lasts for 21 days. Foreign transaction fees are 2.5%. There are no late payment fees. Returned payment fees are up to $20.
Summary
On the whole this is a reasonable card to consider for anyone with an established credit history who wants a new way to support McGill University. You can apply for this card online, and here you can learn more about the card and see the terms in more detail.
