The University of Illinois credit card is issued by the University of Illinois Employees Credit Union. This credit union gives you lots of choices for paying your credit card bills. NOTE: online credit card services with UIECU are now available at their website with the I-Branch Home Banking system (this has replaced Ezcardinfo).

Pay Online: With the UIECU online banking service, you have all the tools you need to manage your account. You can view your payment history and statements, check your current credit balance, the amount you need to pay for your next bill and the next payment due date, and make payments. You can opt out of paper statements and enroll in eStatements. To make payments more convenient, and to make sure that you always pay your bills on time, UIECU allow you to establish an automatic Minimum Payment Plan, Full Balance Payment Plan or Fixed Payment Plan. The University of Illinois Credit Card is different however, as your usage of this card will directly help the University of Illinois Alumni Association.

This card does a god job of rewarding you as well. Interest rates are generally low, and with the ScoreCard Rewards program you earn points for all of your purchases. The ScoreCard Rewards catalog is very large and you can redeem your points for loads of different products and services. You get 10,000 bonus points if you make a purchase or balance transfer within the first 30 days of opening your account. This is enough to start redeeming straight away.

Credit unions often provide customers with terms and conditions that are fairer and more helpful than the terms offered major credit issuers, and the UIECU sets a good example. There are no fees for cash advances or balance transfers, and there is a low foreign transaction fee of 1%. There is no minimum interest charge, and late payment and returned payment fees are a maximum of $25. An introductory APR of 3.9% – 12.9% is provided for the first 12 months on purchases and balance transfers. After that the normal APR is 12.9% – 17.9%, depending on your creditworthiness.
